Navy Yard - 12/10
December is for the ducks! Join us on Sunday, December 10th from 9am-11am as we check out Philadelphia’s winter bird residents at the Navy Yard Riverfront Greenway. We’ll meet up at the intersection of 13th street and Admiral Peary Way to find the raft of ducks that overwinters here on the shore of the Delaware River and walk along the path to see who else is around. We’ll keep an eye out for cormorants, gulls, raptors, woodpeckers, sparrows, and other winter birds! No registration is required and plenty of binoculars to share. You can fill out the carpool interest form if you want to offer or find a ride.
The Navy Yard Riverfront trail is a wide, flat paved path with benches along the way. We’ll do some walking along the trail and some standing still, mostly depending on where the birds are. Since it’s a December morning and on the river it will probably be colder and windier than in other parts of the city, so dress accordingly! There is quite a bit of construction under way, so be mindful of detours. There is free parking on 13th, 11th, and along Admiral Peary Way. Please do not park in the private lots as you could be towed! The 17 bus also extends to the Navy Yard on the weekends. Note there are no bathrooms along the route, but there is a Courtyard hotel nearby.
